Jon started Taekwon-do in 2000 after moving to the North East from Torbay in Devon where he had a successful amateur boxing career which included representing the County. A keen student in boxing and the history of boxing and a love for contact sport led him to taking to Taekwon-do.
Moved to the UKTF as a green belt and achieved Blackbelt under the instruction of Master McKenna (7th Degree) in March 2007.
In 2005 Jon won three gold medals out of four disciplines at the UKTF British Championships held at Gateshead in the senior category and was also awarded best senior student of the championships. He followed that up in 2006 with gold and a bronze in the UKTF Scottish championships in Wishaw, Glasgow.
After a break from competing for 8 years whilst he focused on his schools, he returned to competitions and was chosen to represent the TaeKwonDo Association of England at the 2014 ITF World Cup held in Montego Bay, Jamaica. He returned with a Silver and Bronze medals in Patterns and Destruction categories. He also had one of his black belt students attend the World Cup on the TAE squad, who also returned with Silver medal position in Patterns and Bronze medal position in Sparring. In 2016 he again represented the TAE alongside some of his students at the ITF world cup in Hungary and returned again with Silver and Bronze medals.
Jon has a degree in business management and had a successful career in manufacturing senior management including delivering Personal development programmes as a qualified facilitator which focus on positive mental attitude and increasing self-esteem which he delivered in the corporate world. He has used many of these techniques to assist his development in martial arts and uses many of these techniques whilst helping his students to achieve their goals and ambitions.
In January 2009 Jon left the manufacturing world to continue to develop his career in martial arts instruction on a full-time basis and has seen the membership of the club grow to one of the largest and most competitive clubs in the Northeast.
Jon has two daughters both of which are training within the club and moving through the belt levels. His hope for the future is that they will achieve black belt level and assist within the running and instructorship of the club alongside some of his talented blackbelts and assistant instructors.
